Home is My Island

The movie Cast Away was on TV the other week.

Holy cow, I couldn't believe how much I related to the character being stranded on that island.

Perhaps it is because I am home alone all day with the kids and we try to survive through the day and then start all over again trying to survive through the next day like Chuck Nolan.

Constantine and Simeon are my "Wilson(s)" and Pudge is the trusty windsail that washes ashore every evening.

O Captain! My Captain!

Last night, my old high school headmaster passed away after a long battle with cancer.

I cannot begin to explain to you how much he and Trivium school changed my life. So much so, I am who I am today because of my eye opening experience in that small town of Lancaster, Massachusetts.

He was smart, creative, and faith filled. He was intimidating and just yet loving and calm.

He introduced me and my family to the Novus Order Latin Mass, long skirts, classical polyphonic music, theatre, the Abbey, art, architecture, Socratic method, nightly rosary, Gregorian chant, philosophy, Bump Out, Fall foliage, cigars, soccer, wingtips, tweed blazers, Bolton Orchards, Cumberlands, the Virginian Reel, the Catillion, chorus, and Thesis... just to name a few.

My 15th year to my 19th year was spent near and around him and I will never ever forget that time nor him.

Thank you, Mr. Schmitt.

God rest your soul!

If I had it my way I'd be on a plane right now heading to Boston for his funeral... and would have just left a note (just kidding Pudge, well sort of...)

What's Up Doc?

So, recently I have noticed that our sweet little Simeon has been looking a bit... orange lately, especially his cute tiny nose and toes. Pudge and I lovingly call him carrot toes.

After doing some research, turns out it's all the beta-carotene and Vitamin A rich filled "orange" baby foods I have been feeding him that is causing his discoloration. You see, the "green" foods gave him an awful rash on the ol' buttocks so I cut them completely out of his diet.

So 'tis true what they say, "You are what you eat!"

What To Do?

My husband recently gave me this option:

a last minute, quick get-a-way or new furniture?

I dream about getting out of this stinkin' hell hole for a bit

BUT

our putrid and stained furniture dates back to Abraham Lincoln!

I did not think this would be such a hard choice...

OR

Hmmmm....
